Man Drives His Car Then Dies in River Túr


A man drove his car into the Túr river and then sank near Tisztaberek in Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg county. The man driving the car died on the spot, the regional police headquarters announced on the police website.

The dam guard notified the police at the Túr dam on Monday that he had discovered traces of a vehicle at the foot of the bridge crossing the river, leading into the river.

The divers of the rescue teams who were alerted to the scene searched the river and found the sunken vehicle and the body of the driver of the vehicle in the passenger compartment. The car was pulled ashore with the help of a power engine by the firemen of Fehérgyarmat.

In the meantime, the driver’s family members also reported the man’s disappearance to the police. According to the data of the proceedings so far, a 62-year-old man was on his way to Tisztaberek from the direction of Sonkád on Sunday afternoon, when, for reasons that have not yet been clarified, he drove off the protective dam and fell into the river.

The circumstances of the accident are being investigated by the police as part of criminal proceedings.
